Gaza. It is one of the defining issues of our time.

It is where humankind is struggling to come to terms with our humanity.

In the face of apartheid, in the face of genocide, in the face of the destruction of an entire group of people, advocates have risen to be the voice of compassion. But these voices – your voices – have not yet been heeded.

Here is a vital opportunity to be heard.

New Zealand's largest news outlet Stuff is boldly trying something different. They are asking for everyday New Zealanders to share their thoughtful perspective on Gaza.

This is more than an opinion poll to gauge people's positions. This is a chance to show the country, and our Government, how New Zealanders really feel about what's going on in Gaza.

You don't have to be a professional writer. You don't have to have been published before. You don't have to have a lot of time. You just have to have a heart, a keyboard and a willingness to share your truth.

Submissions must be under 600 words. But you are welcome to submit something shorter. If you can say something heartfelt and poignant in a paragraph, do it.

Share how you feel, as a human being. Share how you feel about the New Zealand Government's response. Share how it would look different if humanity was prioritised over all else.

Don't be shouty. Don't spout hate. Don't fuel the fire. Just be human.

Because that's what's right.

Get amongst it

  • Keep submissions below 600 words, but they can be shorter
  • Email them to , cc-ing
  • State your occupation (or say if you're a student) and any other pertinent facts

*Feel free to share your words with us too (info@amnesty.org.nz) if you'd be happy for us to post on our site. We'd like to help show how New Zealanders feel about this issue.
