Submission to the Abortion Legislation Committee on the Abortion Legislation Bill
This submission is made on behalf of Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand (AIANZ). In New Zealand we have approximately 38,000 supporters and work on a wide range of human rights issues of both national and international significance.
AIANZ encourages the Select Committee to take a human rights based approach to analysing the current Bill. This includes fulfilling New Zealand’s human rights obligations with regards to protecting and guaranteeing rights to the highest attainable standard of health, non-discrimination and equality, privacy, information, liberty, and security of the person and freedom from cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.
