People seeking safety are facing discrimination, violence, and systemic injustice.

Whether it’s a mother and her children fleeing violence in Venezuela or a family escaping missile strikes in Ukraine, everyday people are fleeing their lives.

Instead of being able to rebuild their lives, they are being detained, discriminated against, and denied their right to asylum.

The global refugee crisis is a stark reminder of the urgent need for compassion, solidarity and a comprehensive approach to protect the rights and dignity of those forced to flee their homes.

Over the past six years, Amnesty International Aotearoa has campaigned to end Australia’s offshore detention centres. Amnesty has advocated for the Australian Government to accept the New Zealand offer of welcoming up to 150 people in offshore detention per year.

Last year the offer was finally accepted. It was a hard-won victory, and in November, the first people touched down in Aotearoa and started their new lives.

Now these people – left in limbo offshore by the Australian Government’s brutal offshore detention policy – will now have the opportunity to restart their lives.

A brighter future for our planet & future generations.

The climate crisis is a human rights emergency. Right now, it's causing suffering and injustice to people around the world.

There is a brighter future where everyone can enjoy clean air, safe water, and a healthy environment.

TOGETHER WE CAN ACHIEVE A BETTER VISION FOR HUMANITY

By joining forces, we can break down barriers, challenge oppressive systems, and foster a world where human rights thrive.

Our shared vision for humanity can become a transformative force for change, igniting a global movement towards justice and compassion.

In the face of incredible hardship, refugees show tremendous courage, resilience, and strength. They are risking their lives, and they can’t do it alone.
