Everyone has the right to a safe, stable home
The United Nations (UN) estimates that an estimated 90% of homes in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed. For two years, Palestinians throughout the Gaza Strip have been bombarded, starved, and subjected to wave after wave of mass forced displacement, as Israel continues its genocide in Gaza.
Globally, the UN have said that in 2025, 305 million people need urgent humanitarian aid due to escalating crises. The UN Refugee Agency estimated that by the end of 2024, 123.2 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced.
Losing one's home is much more than the loss of a physical space. It brings separation from community and has devastating effects for family members, particularly the very young and old. Other consequences of this destruction range from mass displacement of peoples to significant health and environmental hazards from mounting rubble and debris.
Amnesty International regards safe housing as a human right, and the intentional targeting of civilian homes in armed conflict is treated as a war crime under international law.

What we're doing:
An overview of our work can be found here.
- Collecting Evidence: Teams on the ground collect first-hand testimonies, document human rights violations and ensure our investigations are based on the latest and most accurate information. Our Crisis Evidence Lab analyses photos, videos and satellite images. By piecing together crucial evidence, we can hold people in power to account. Without this there is a risk that atrocities will go unseen, denied or misreported. An example of our research and evidence gathering is our research finding Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
- Advocacy and Campaigning: Around the world and here in Aotearoa we are pressuring those in power to do all they can to end the atrocities. Whether it’s through protests, rallies, media commentary or advocacy, we along with so many others are committed to relentless pressure until the atrocities end. You can check out some of our campaigns here and here. But, it’s not just Governments we need to target. Some businesses are at risk of being complicit in the atrocities, so we’re also putting pressure on them to take action. For example, check out our Hyundai campaign.
