This Human Rights Day, join Amnesty as we "Go Yellow" on all of our social media platforms!

Every year on 10 December, Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand celebrates Human Rights Day, the day in 1948 that the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In years past, we have honoured Amnesty's history by lighting a candle on Human Rights Day. Some choose to celebrate with a toast to freedom.

Last year, Auckland's SkyTower shone brightly in yellow to commemorate Human Rights Day (creating possibly the world's largest candle).

Human Rights Day is 10 December. Every year, people all around the world honour a pivotal moment for humanity — the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. It was the first time that countries agreed on the rights that deserve universal protection in order for everyone, everywhere to live with dignity.
